On the 6th June it came to light that 6.5 million LinkedIn passwords were compromised. Moments later Twitter was ablaze with information and speculation. Surprisingly, there was only one Twitter announcement from LinkedIn and nothing on LinkedIn itself.
Incident response is currently one of the most popular discussion topics and addressing the media in a timely manner is crucial. Whilst the draft NIST report, SP 800-61, gives guidelines on the positive aspects of fully and effectively communicating important information to the public, there is still a lack of understanding of how social media should be used when tackling incident response.
